Are you looking for a place where you can connect with others and develop significant relationships? Would you like to grow deeper in your relationship with God? Join a Community Group!
God never intended for us to live out the Christian life alone. He created us as relational beings and desires for us to invest in each others’ lives no matter where we are in our faith journey. Becoming involved in a Community Group is an ideal way for you to grow in your intimacy with God as you make meaningful connections with others.
What is a Community Group?
A Community Group is a group of around 12 or so people who meet together regularly for one semester to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and with one another. Each group accomplishes this by praying, studying, having fun, encouraging and supporting one another, and serving in ministry together. Our Community Groups are safe, welcoming places that provide great ways to meet new people while growing in your faith.
Where And When Do They Meet?
We have groups that meet in homes throughout the area, in coffee shops and many other places. They meet at different times and on different days of the week. Some meet every week, others twice a month. Some begin in the Fall, others in the Spring and Summer.
What if I’m Already Involved in a Small Group?
It is very easy, especially on the Peninsula, to become over-extended in our schedules. Therefore, we encourage you to be involved in only one group, but if you have the time and the desire you are welcome to join more than one.
What if I Have Childcare Needs?
It’s up to each Community Group itself to decide whether or not they will provide childcare. The groups that provide childcare are noted in the catalog. Some groups are labeled “child-friendly”, which means that children are welcome to attend the group, but there will not be structured childcare provided.
When do Community Groups start meeting?
Community Groups will start meeting the week of January 8 and the Winter/Spring 2012 trimester ends the week of May 20. At that point you may remain in your current Community Group for the Summer trimester, which begins the week of June 13, or sign up for another Community Group – simply notify your current Community Group Leader either way. Our trimester system means that when you sign up for a group you aren’t signing your life away. We hope that during the trimester you will develop friendships that will continue outside of group, whether you return to the same group the next trimesteror not.
Will I have to pray in front of people?
No one is singled out to pray in front of the group.
How long does a group meeting last?
Meeting lengths vary and the meeting times of each group are listed in the catalog. All our time is precious so group leaders begin and end groups punctually.
Should I bring a Bible?
Yes! If you do not have a Bible, the church can provide you with one at the Information Center on Sunday mornings.
What is an Affinity Group?
Affinity Groups are relaxed, informal gatherings designed to help you meet new CPCers and build relationships while having a good time. Whether it's a book club meeting, learning how to cook tamales, or going biking - these groups are easy ways to have fun and make friends. If you have an idea for an Affinity Group that you’d like to spearhead, contact Lee at lmiller@cpcfc.org.
How do I Get Involved?
Getting involved in a Community Group or an Affinity Group is easy. There are a number of groups to choose from and many groups are diverse in their focus, so we are confident that you will be able to find one that is a fit for you. First browse our open Community Groups catalog and prayerfully consider which group you'd like to join. Then complete the online sign up form. That's it! After submitting your information your Community Group Leader will follow up with you shortly thereafter. Please register for only one Community Group at a time.
May I Lead My Own Group?
There is a process for becoming a Community Group Leader. As a ministry, we are careful to prepare and develop each Community Group Leader, Co-leader, and Host. If you would like to find out more about what it means to be a Community Group Leader, Co-Leader, or Host please contact Lee at lmiller@cpcfc.org who would be glad to connect with you about these vital ministries.
